Maroon Buddies

A Maroon Buddy is a soft toy that the students can take with them on all of their adventures. Students are encouraged to write in the journal from their buddy’s perspective.

The Maroon Buddy can be introduced to the group as a new group member. It can be used as an observer, a focus for discussions, and an avenue for expressing thoughts, feelings and new ideas in a non-threatening manner.

Maroon OEC has seven Maroon Buddies, each with a journal for their time at camp and a journal that can be used back at school.

A number of resources have been developed to assist in the use of the Maroon buddy.

Wally’s Journal
A sample journal has been created for the students to read before they come on camp. It provides lots of useful information about Maroon OEC and the Maroon Buddies.

The Camp Journal
There is a group journal for each Maroon buddy. The journal can be used by students to record and reflect on the Maroon Buddy’s experiences.

The Passport Page
Each group will be required to complete a page for their Maroon Buddy’s passport. This will be kept at Maroon OEC to show other students what the buddies have been doing.

The School Journal
After your camp at Maroon OEC you can use The School Journal to transfer the students learning from camp into the classroom. A journal cover is available for each buddy.

A Teacher's Guide

This guide provides some ideas for teachers in using the Maroon Buddies with students.
