Samples
Meeting Needs
Maroon OEC designs and implements programs to meet the specific needs of your students. A sequence of activities is developed to suit the physical and emotional level of the students, and activities are adapted and implemented to best address the program outcomes.
Programs for Year 10-12 students are typically three to five days long. They can include the following experiences:
High Challenge
Rockclimbing, abseiling or high ropes can be used to provide students with a challenge and to assist them to develop personal skills to meet daily challenges.
Campout
Students may campout at one of the surrounding campsites. A campout may be for one night or longer. Students can walk, paddle or be driven to and from campsites. Here they can spend time exploring the surrounding state forests and national parks. During campout students can walk or paddle from one campsite to another and typically carry all of their equipment in backpacks. On campout students help to prepare and cook meals, take a role in navigation, route planning, leadership and group management.
Group Activities
These can be used to allow students to develop leadership, communication and group work skills and to assist students to understand the roles in planning and reflection on the learning process.

Setting Goals and Meeting New Challenges
After MOEC students will:

Match career goals with strengths, interests and what is wanted out of life.

Set a career goal that is specific and identifies exactly what sort of work is wanted.
-
Identify small steps that will lead to the career goal.
-
Set a time line for these small steps and measure progress.
-
Identify the skills and knowledge needed and the people that can help teach them.
-
Set a deadline for starting work in chosen career.
-
Develop strategies to address factors that threaten the achievement of goals.
-
Challenge themselves to do the best that they can to increase their career opportunities.
At MOEC Students will:
Identify their strengths and weaknesses through personal reflection and feedback from others.
-
Set a realistic goal to improve one weakness.
-
Produce a list of the small things that they will do each day to move towards their goal.
-
Evaluate their performance against their daily list and goal for the week.
-
Identify the support needed to achieve their goal and use strategies to encourage others to support them.


Preparing for New Worlds of Work
After MOEC students will:

Complete all of the requirements to prepare for work experience.
-
Find out what the employer will expect in the work place:
-
Tasks.
-
Dress.
-
Communication.
-
Safety.
-
Start and finish time.
-
Organise themselves in advance:
-
Transport.
-
Clothes.
-
Lunch.
-
Familiarise themselves with the evaluation forms that will be used in assessing their performance.

Identify the skills and attitudes that employers value.
-
Participate in work experience displaying initiative, positive attitude and preparedness.
At MOEC Students will:

Submit an application for a Project Job.
-
Investigate what will be expected in the role.
-
Prepare strategies to carry out tasks.
-
Collect any resources that will be needed.
-
Tell the other members of the group what they will be doing.
-
Assist the other members of the group to fulfil their roles.
-
Demonstrate initiative and a positive attitude while on campout.
-
Evaluate their own performance and their effect on the group.
-
Reflects on skills and attitudes identifying areas for improvement.

After MOEC students will:

At MOEC Students will:

Identify personal strengths.

Identify factors that limit ability to reach personal potential.

Evaluate current coping strategies/reactions used in challenging and stressful environments.

Explore a variety of coping strategies for use in challenging and stressful environments.

Give and receive feedback about personal strengths and weaknesses.

Develop a Personal Action Plan:

Select appropriate coping strategies.
-
List steps to address weaknesses.
-
Modify factors that are within my control.

Identify key people to support them in this plan.


Effective Leadership
This programme has been designed to assist aspiring student leaders to develop skills that will assist them to fulfil their role within the school.
After MOEC students will:

Share Personal Leadership Plan with key people.

Enact personal leadership plan whilst:
-
Leading committees.
-
Speaking in public.
-
Assisting with major events. eg Sport days, socials, free dress days
-
Managing small projects. eg fundraising, community based projects, school jerseys

Representing the school

Undertake a review of Personal Leadership Plan including feedback from key people.
At MOEC Students will:

Identify the attributes of a good group member and the characteristics of effective leaders.

Gain an awareness of the range of leadership styles and their application.

Develop a Personal Leadership Profile:

Identify leadership strengths and weaknesses.

Understand how personality influences leadership style.
-
Identify factors that limit my leadership potential.

Practice decision making, event planning and communication skills in a fun and challenging environment.

Give and receive feedback about leadership strengths and weaknesses.

Develop a Personal Leadership Plan:

Describe the type of leader they want to be.

List steps to address weaknesses and limiting factors.

Identify key people to support them in this plan.

Set realistic leadership goals.

Produce a list of small steps to assist movement towards the goal.

Develop an evaluation strategy that will assist in monitoring progress.
