Meeting Needs

Maroon OEC designs and implements programs to meet the specific needs of your students. A sequence of activities is developed to suit the physical and emotional level of the students, and activities are adapted and implemented to best address the program outcomes.

Maroon OEC programs for Year 6 and 9 students are typically three to five days. They can include some of the following activities:

  • Low ropes, exploratory walks into creeks and gullies, aquatic activities such as swimming, raft building, kayaking and canoeing.
  • Pioneering activities using poles and ropes to build structures, and group activities can be used to allow students to develop leadership, communication and group work skills.
  • Environmental activities such as the Forest Feeding Frenzy is a hands on activity played in a nearby paddock. It's a game of survivial where students role play the workings of the food chain. This experience highlights the workings of a natural ecosystem.
  • Students may campout for one night by the dam edge or at one of our surrounding campsites. They could walk, paddle or be driven to and from these campsites. On campout students can spend time exploring the surrounding state forests and national parks. They will also help to prepare and cook meals and take greater responsibility for their personal belongings. They can also be encouraged to navigate, route plan and to learn more about leadership and group management.
  • During program students may spend some time in the library and the art room working on a school project. This may also include outside observations, drawing or collecting samples for later investigation.
  • Rockclimbing, abseiling and other high challenge activities can be used to provide students with a challenge and to help them discover the power of group support.
  • Our static high ropes course has been specifically designed for students in upper primary school. It provides a focus for setting and meeting hallenges.
